3 YEARS OF 1MT! Time for a few moments of unity...
A pub rave and some radio airwaves: Bristol Thursday, London Saturday.
It’s funny. Without trying, we seem to have developed a bit of a tradition of doing two-pronged birthday celebrations.
On our first birthday we did Planet Wax & Rough Tempo, on our second birthday we did Planet Wax and AAJA Radio.
Now for our third we have two more signiffy shindigs. They’re both super special and we’d love for you to come along or tune in!!
Tonight, Thursday July 3 - Star & Garter Bristol
8pm - 1am
Quentin Hiatus, Dehga, Fireworks Factory B2B Lakeway, Scartip & NoDave, Dar C B2B Pop:P B2B Sef & MC Fabzii, C-Du are all on board for this super special do.
This is a line-up Bristol has never seen before!
Quentin and Dehga have never played in the UK before and there are a few Bristol debuts going on there and all. It’s the first time I’ve ever promoted a party there too. Having worked at IDJ for almost 10 years and commuted to the city every day - and DJing there more times than I could possibly remember - it feels good to do something in Brizzle. Especially something so different and fresh.
Beats in a boozer, party in a pub. Star & Garter has a lot of deep Bristol history - including being a favourite spot to catch of one of my most influential selectors DJ Derek RIP. Myself and Scartip will be paying homage with a special dub / roots b2b for the opening hour and it’s the set I’ve been most excited to play for a long time. We’re honoured to host a little party in there.
Not just a birthday party, too… But also a release launch for Quentin Hiatus’s forthcoming album on 1 More Thing AND it’s Quentin’s birthday the following day. A lot to celebrate! And a sick cassette style USB to punt too… (so chuffed with that, it was Tom’s idea and it looks lush. Our first physical product as a label!!!)
Saturday July 5, BMC Radio, London
12pm - 4pm - TUNE IN ON MIXCLOUD
We’re LOVING our monthly Saturday sessions at BMC Radio. The vibe there, with the Pacific Tavern beer garden right on the doorstep, makes it just right for a social link-up but the set-up is perfect for streaming. BMC has a lovely crew behind it (check this story on how it came to be and how they are inspiringly community focused)
Following our lively session in June with Fireworks Factory who curated the line-up to celebrate his debut release Breaking Gemstones / Can’t Stand The Rain, we are back on Saturday July 5 with another wonderful line-up.
Rolling on the internet airwaves from midday to 4pm will Quentin & Dehga who are keeping the party going from Thursday. This is ahead of Quentin’s headline billing at Jungle In The Cronx for Goldfat in Croydon.
We have the return of Airbender (who CRUSHED it last month - check this set!!) plus 1MT crew and family - Solstice, ITZA, Seilenn and me NoDave. Rumour has it the last Come B2B With Me of the series will be recorded there, too!!
So come one, come all. The Star & Garter is free if you’re able to get to Bristol and BMC can be tuned in and streamed anywhere around the world (or attended if you head to the Pacific Tavern pub)
No one is free until we are all free
Speaking of the world. It feels very disjointed and upsetting to be celebrating anything right now while some of the darkest atrocities are happening in Gaza, the mainstream media are trying to feed us the most crass and dispicable ring wing propaganda and we’re on the brink of WW3. So we will end this update by highlighting this essential EP from Business As Usual and Fox. Entitled What’s The Meaning, all proceeds are going directly to support the Gaza Soup Kitchen: gazasoupkitchen.com
We’d love to update you on lots of other things and share loads of bits we’ve done on previous birthdays. But we’ll save that for next week. Or the week after, or the week after that if things get too hectic or long.
You know how it is.
Stay up to date on Instagram and YouTube and keep an eye out for those lush Quentin Hiatus cassette USBs on our Bandcamp from Friday.
Peace! x
