International Save A Spider Day is always a really good one. Especially on the web. That’s on March 14 of course.
We LOVE National Jelly Bean Day here at 1MT HQ. That’s on April 22 and it’s always such a sweet time.
Not to be confused with World Jellyfish Day, mind.
That’s November 3, which is a bit of a stinger in itself because International Stress Awareness Awareness Week starts on the same day!
How do you even start to contemplate your own stress levels while considering jellyfish?!? I smell a new podcast concept…
National days clash all the time though so don’t act too surprised.
Sometimes it’s purrrfect… Just last week I got into a really cosy spot as August 8 was both National CBD Day and International Cat Day. Stress levels were low that day I’ll tell you.
And vibe levels are high today as we celebrate Melon Day. With roots in Turkmenistan, the second Sunday of August is a day dedicated to the popular round fruit that comes in over 40 types… Including musical types this year as we celebrate a very significant moment: Sonnet’s debut EP Melon is finally out in the world!
We’ve been building up to this one for quite some time…
Sonnet first came our way on our debut Demo Drop show in September last year. His tunes had such a particular sound to them, and the reaction in the Twitch chat was consistently wild every time we played them, we had to sign them.
Since then we’ve developed a really healthy creative dialogue and put some very big plans in place. Working the Melon promo like an old dubplate, we’ve had these tracks circulating among the biggest of DJs since spring and the results have been very fulfilling. Check this interview we did on BMC last week where we discuss it…
This is a nice quick introduction to Sonnet and his story so far.
A core member of the 1 More Thing crew, there’s something very special about his sound which really brings a lot of our sonic parameters together in a way that’s very anthemic and palettable yet just as prone to being experimental, diverse and unpredictable. The fact his debut EP is being supported by everyone from Ed Rush to High Contrast speaks volumes.
I’ll level with you, yeah… A bit of wee came out for both Sonnet and me when the mighty Rob Swire commented!!
So this is where we’re at right now and why we’re celebrating International Melon Day in such a juicy way this year.
