We got that Friday feeling
Do you?
Friday’s always got a little je ne sais quoi to it.
Even if you’ve got to work on the weekend or have nothing particularly exciting or rock ‘n’ roll planned. Even if it feels like the whole world is going to Let It Roll this weekend except you.
Even if you hate days beginning with the letter F.
Friday is a vibe.
Nothing feels quite as heavy or stressful or frustrating on this sacred day. Especially this particular one, for all kinds of reasons that I’ll list below.
But for me personally this Friday is going to be beyond priceless as my best friend is coming to his first gig since being diagnosed with bowel cancer. He is now fighting fit and Big C free and that’s enough to errupt me goosebumps and well up my eyes with tears just writing these words let alone getting back into gigging with him.
So that’s where I’m at. And despite the immense amount of challenges that I am currently faced with elsewhere in life, this makes me happier than any string of words on a Substack could ever possibly translate.
Now please let me tell you where my brand is at. Spoiler: we’ve got LOADS OF COOL STUFF HAPPENING!
First though, a message of love from man like Navigator MC:
Free Download: Emalkay - Fabrication (Sonnet Bootleg)
Who’s up for a bit of nostalgic gully????
Look no further. Sonnet has you sorted…
To celebrate the release of his Melon EP (coming out on August 10) Sonnet has cooked up an almighty version of Emalkay’s 2011 dubstep anthem Fabrication and it absolutely slaps. Those eeries twists. The tension. The bass. This is the turbo flip we all need but don’t deserve. You can grab it here in return of a pre-save. Have a little buzz on this video I made for it…
BANDCAMP FRIDAY!
Told you Friday was a vibe!
If you want to support 1 More Thing and our artists, today is definitely the best day to do that as all proceeds from sales on our Bandcamp page go directly to us throughout the entire 24 hours of Friday.
Previously a monthly movement but now just quarterly, Bandcamp Friday is a great opporunity for us to highlight all the cool stuff we have for sale. It goes without saying that times are exasperatingly hard for indie labels and underground artists right now. Any support, even just downloading one tune, really does have a positive impact.
A few things we have on sale right now…
Quentin Hiatus - Royal Notes Mixtape cassette USB
Our first ever handheld musical release! This doesn’t just have Quentin’s full album on but also two previous releases from his label Free Love Digi. It looks beautiful, it sounds amazing and it tricks you into thinking it’s a tape WHEN IT’S ACTUALLY A USB key! How sick is that? Check this video I made for it when we launched it a few weeks back…
Fireworks Factory - Breaking Gemstones / Can’t Stand The Rain
We got so much love for Fireworks Factory. From winning a competition with us last year to closing down our stage at Big Love last weekend, this masked maverick is SMASHING IT. He’s got a unique sound and look and his attitude towards his art and the craft is super inspiring. We have no doubt he’s going to make some epic waves in his career and I’m so proud to say that it starts here on 1 More Thing with these two crucial cuts. We had some pretty wild support on this one…
Lakeway - Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun
Did you catch this one yet? Lakey dropped a mad clutch of Bandcamp only bangers a few months back and they kick serious jacksy!! A delicate range of hardcore, emo, jungle, hyperpop and whatever other socery he’s got dribbling out of his magic wand, these aren’t available anywhere else and won’t be until the end of the year.
Like Fireworks Factory, Lakeway is a truly unique soul with an approach to his art that is unlike any other artists I’ve worked with in all my years. His set at Big Love was a riot. He is such a badman on the decks. We just posted a clip of the intro…
DNB / DHL T-shirt
For those times when you are ready to absolutely, categorically, 100% SEND IT. These cheeky flips on the DHL logo are a bright and bold way of telling the world you love drum n bass! We’ve got limited stock left on these bright little badboys. Here I am rocking on while doing a B2B with Gwillz. Snazzy eh? (Check the full mix too - not for the feint hearted!)
Catch us on BMC Radio this weekend!
It’s the first Saturday of the month this weekend which means one thing… Our monthly takeover on BMC Radio!!
We LOVE doing this show! Every single one so far has been a really fun social buzz with different DJs and crew members flying in and out of the studio. Being based in the beer garden of a pub - The Pacific Tavern - definitely helps keep the social fire burning too. Many friends come down and hang as we roll out the tunes and interviews and you can really feel that in each show.
This is our fourth BMC takeover and this time we’re rolling out an extra two hours of vibes as we welcome even more guests and celebrate Sonnet’s Melon EP!
Our very own Solstice has curated the first half of the show with Wolfie, Kitty Churchfield, Finessa, Curse and Mazza on side while Sonnet takes care of the second half with some of his closest friends Felstead and Dr Ballard and myself.
Hosted by Solstice, Shenice and me, you can expect plenty of chats, beats and blends from a really exciting and highly genre fluid new-generation line-up. Here’s how it’s going to go down…
That’s a full afternoon of fun right there!
If you’d like a flavour of our BMC shows, check our Mixes playlist on YouTube and chow down on this one with extra bite: Quentin Hiatus b2b Dehga b2b Airbender b2b NoDave. Woof woof!!
Deconstructing Delirium - our deepest podcast to date
Also on YouTube but not quite as fizzy or jokes-packed is our latest podcast. It’s with DJ Persuasion and it’s called Deconstructing Delirium because that’s exactly what our guest does… He breaks down his experience and memories of being in an ICU-induced coma (which saw him on a ketamine drip for two whole weeks) and how that is reflected in his music.
Taking time to break down the casual and very popular use of the word delirium (and various associated terms and ideas of losing ones mind) within rave music and the surrouding culture of recreational drug use.
This is a truly unique and fascinating conversation but does come with a trigger warning. What Persuasion went through (and is still battling to a certain degree) is one of the most traumatic experiences ever described to me in an interview. If you or someone close to you has experienced ICU-delirium then please approach the podcast with caution.
Quentin Hiatus DJ set @ 1 More Thing’s Birthday Bash, Star & Garter Bristol
So buzzing to share this with you!
As I mentioned in last week’s Substack, we’re official on Hiatus right about now. His Royal Notes Mixtape is doing bits and we launched it in fine style as he and his mate Dehga came over to perform their debut UK shows at our third birthday party in Bristol legendary boozer The Star & Garter.
The vibe was beautiful all night as friends old and new collided to celebrate cutting edge music in a wonderfully chilled and welcoming establishment. More of a sesh than a rave, the whole night was unique and one we’ll never forget. Quentin, of course, was the star of the show. Check this mix. He strictly plays his own material. No one else’s. This is why I refer to him as ‘the Calibre of footwork’…
Scartip & NoDave’s epic Big Love marathon
In case you didn’t know, Scartip and I like to go back to back every now and again and really get freaky. We seem to push each other in really interesting ways and influence each other to draw beyond what we’d usually play. We’ve played 7 sets together so far - all of them recorded and document - but out opening set at Big Love was another level.
222 minutes of madness right there. From the opening Mr Happy Theme Tune (old school Rodger Hargreaves, not DJ Hazard) to the Craig David & Artful Dodger finale (all over your boing) this was a mega trip that covers every area of disco, breaks, funk and techno that you’d ever want to shake your money maker to.
Also a humungous honour to be the first DJs to play at a festival. If you arrived between 5pm - 9pm on the Thursday you’d have been bopping to us when you unpacked your tent and settled in. How cool is that?
Sadly since Big Love, we have lost one of its main founders Stu Housely who passed away this week. Sending out nothing but love, support and deep condolences to his family and friends. What a legacy Stu has left. Rest In Peace.

That’s probably enough cool stuff for your ears, eyes, brains and dancing feet right now. Thanks so much if you’ve read this far. Even bigger thanks if you support us on Patreon!
Here’s some cool stuff to look out for next week…
The Return Of the Demo Drop!
Yes yes, after several months break our most popular stream returns! Weds August 6, 6pm UK time. I’ll be joined by Sonnet on this special return show and we’re awaiting your demos NOW. Send them over - demos@1-more-thing.co.uk
Lakeway B2B Fireworks Factory
What a clash of creative minds this was!! Recorded at our Star & Garter party, this b2b was every bit as brazen, bold and full of surprises as I’d hoped. It’s going live on Monday. Watch out!
International Melon Day
August 10th. Mark it in your calendar. Put your melon stocking at the end of the bed and write to Father Melonmass. Tell them that you’ve been a goodie all year and you’re hoping for some juicy treats this Internatty Melon Day. You totally deserve it!
Nice one, see you soon, NoDave
