We knew this moment would come. A 1 More Thing Substack.
Here we are. A 1 More Thing Substack thing.
Late to the bandwagon, but there seems to be quite a lot of interesting and cool stuff on here and a focus on actual creativity so let’s give this a try.
If this has landed in your inbox then you’re receiving this as you’re a Patreon subscriber, we’ve either released your music, you’ve submitted demos or you’ve taking part in our Demo Drop or DJ competitions and we would like to keep you updated on all the cool stuff we’re hurling out into the universe!
Hopefully regularly. Hopefully packing enough interesting things to keep your attention. Hopefully putting the occasional massive smile on your face with all the vibes we’re conjuring up right about now :)
So please read on and get a big juicy slap of 1MT goodness!
Love you!
Music we’re not putting on any streaming sites until at least November!
Firstly, we’re dropping a brand new EP from Lakeway this weekend and it’s out of this world.
A hot and ravey expansion pack for his beautiful debut album I’ve Missed The Sun (have you checked it yet?), this is called Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun Sun and it’s so fizzy you’ll catch a contact high.
An emotional dive into deconstructed jungle, grime, footwork, hardcore, dnb and hero does of Vit D, this mix below is the only thing we’re streaming. Cop the EP strictly on the BC (today if possible - it’s Bandcamp Friday innit!)
Here it is. Check it, don’t heck it…
BE WARNED: This will trigger major goosebumps and emotional meltdowns.
Hectic April!
We’re not just here to tell you about Bandcamp Friday. We’ve been cooking on all burners throughout April. Check this mad short by our man Tom, it captures just how busy we’ve been.
Highlights include a whole volcano of editorial, mixes and drops. Including…
A Trip To Japan
Our new writer Gianina Mesina kicks off her 1 More Thing journey in Tokyo with a
trip to Womb club and chat with Japan’s foremost drum & bass pioneer DJ Aki. This one is steeped in history!
The Return Of Social Security
Early 2000s renegades Social Security is back after a long period away from the scene to focus on his acting career. Moses and his brother Latif were a major force to be reckoned with throughout the 2000s and were signed to labels such as Creative Source and Hospital. Now with just Moses at the helm, Social Security and the Benefits Imprint is back and kicking serious posteriors. He even laid down this dope mix for us…
Three longform video interviews…
Head to our interviews playlist for three biggies
A rare conversation with cult genre-melter Culprate where he reveals a moment in his life when he could have ended up behind bars for a substantial amount of time!
A moving conversation with French heavyweight Vici about him living the Derealisation disorder and how music has been such a positive force in his life.
And a deep one with Scartip… who’s in a bath. Why is he in a bath? Because we released his EP Flesh and wouldn’t interview him in the nuddy could we? The EP has had some amazing feedback from artists and is totally off the wall. So is this interview…
Flesh!
As we’ve just mentioned - we’ve released more music this month! This time the uncategorizable Flesh from Scartip. A core member of our artists and a man seriously pushing limits and boundaries on labels such as Vision and Hypercolour.
Breaks, electro, techno, dnb and everything in between, Flesh has been pricking the ears of DJs across the board from Machine Woman to OPR8 and was even downloaded for Richie Hawtin!
Not for the feint hearted, here’s his own video for the title track. Watch it while you cop the EP on Bandcamp.
Watch out for some handy lifestyle hacks from him on our socials over the coming weeks too. He’s already told us how to cook an egg. We’ve been doing it wrong our whole lives!
Join us on BMC Radio!
We are live on BMC Radio every first Saturday of the month, kicking off this Saturday May 3! BMC are such an inspiring collective and community, their studios in the Pacific Tavern yard are the perfect spot for our multi-genre mischief.
Running 12pm-4pm you can catch it on Mixcloud or if you’re London-based then come down and catch us IRL and hang out in the beer garden. It’s such a sweet spot. This month NoDave will be joined by Lakeway, Wawa, Stateviolet and Sonnet… Whose forthcoming 1 More Thing EP is currently getting support from the likes of K Motionz, John B and Camo & Krooked!
Expect all kinds of flavours and vibes. For the background on BMC check this feature we published about their origin story.
And here’s a musical taster courtesy of Lakeway and NoDave testing the station after our album launch party the night before.
Fancy a B2B mate?
Who doesn’t? Our gaffer NoDave is literally up for B2Bing anyone right now and wants to really explore and celebrate how social and interative DJing can be with others.
Like those times when you go over a mate’s house for mix. No particular agenda or reason. Not practicing for a big gig or playing to a dancefloor. Just pure love of music and sharing vibes. It’s an absolute thrill to mix with someone who you’ve never played with before… And you really get to know them on a different level when you’re doing a session like this!
Come B2B With Me is currently a weekly series and at the time of publishing this post, we’re about drop episode 8 with Dove. The most multi-genre adventure so far, it’s such a trip. You can catch all of the B2Bs here, so far previous guests include DJ Hybrid, Energy, EONE, Lakeway, Sharpson, Dexta and Pinks. We have some absolute blinders lined up for May, too including Krash Dubz, Dorpy, Fireworks Factory and an almighty UKG showdown with Fabian Dubz where both DJs use their own controllers and jam it out. It’s immense.
We want this list to go on and on and on so if you love the art of mixing, enjoy little musical puzzles and really see the fun in this concept then hit us and see if we can make one happen. It’s a fully inclusive series so expect Dave to be joined by any DJs from new gen to pioneer and every level in between. All genres too. Well, most…
Here’s a great example with Pinks from last Friday. From dubstep all the way to jungle and hardcore. It was recorded at BMC Radio, too. What a vibe.
That’s it from us for now. We do hope we can keep these regular and keep you up to date on everything we do. It’s so hard to keep up with any label, brand, platform or even individual but these dispatches might help fill a few gaps.
Who knows? Anyway, it’s been nice to reflect on our recent antics and huge love to you if you’ve read all the way to end of this! See you soon. Peace!
